June 20, 2009, Enfield, Connecticut-Westbury's Karin Simonian scored
the only goal of the game off an assist from Vicki DiMartino of
Massapequa Park in the 30th minute as the Long Island Fury defeated
the New England Mutiny, 1-0 tonight in Connecticut. The Fury stay
undefeated at 5-0-0 while the Mutiny are now 1-4-0.
Fury keeper Jillian Mastroianni, playing in her home state, made five
saves for the shut out, including a brilliant one with 20 minutes left.
"The Mutiny played very well and we are delighted with the win,
especially since we have never won here. We showed character again
with the win," commented Fury head coach Paul Riley. "Our very young
midfield of Deanna Murino, Cari Roccaro and Karin Simonian, average
age of 15, was the difference."
"All our games this year have been very close," Coach Riley concluded.
The next game is Wednesday night, June 24 at Adelphi University's
Competition Field in Garden City. At 6 pm, the Fury play the 2-3-1
Millburn Magic while their men's team, the 2-0-1 Long Island Academy,
entertain the 0-3-0 Morris County Colonials at 8 pm.
ALBERTSON SOCCER CLUB WAS THE big winner of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase, the Memorial Day weekend event in Sarasota, Fla. The New York club was the only one of 73 Academy clubs taking part in the five-day event to win all six games, three each in the under-17/18 and under-15/16 age groups.
Albertson was one of four clubs ranked in the Top 10 in the U-17/18s to win all three games in that age group. It also won all three games in the U-15/16 age group. Other Top 10 U-17/18 teams to win all three games were the No. 1 Derby County Wolves, FC Delco and D.C. United. The only Top 10 team in the U-15/16 age group to have a perfect weekend was South California's Arsenal FC.
Coached by former U.S. U-20 international Adrian Gaitan, Albertson leads the U-17/18 Northeast Division with a 12-1-1 record and is assured of advancing to 32-team Academy Playoffs June 26-29 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. Tyler Arnone led Albertson in Sarasota with three goals, including both goals in a 2-0 win over Mustang SC.
Paul Riley coaches the U/15-16s, who are first in their division with two games to play in the regular season and will also compete in the playoffs. The wins improved their overall record to 13-11-4. Juan Dominguez scored three goals to lead the U-15/16s in their three wins.
The Showcase attracted scouts from most major Division I programs, as well as from English club Arsenal and Mexican club Tigres and its farm team.
We are offering a "Boot Camp" program for all AlbertsonSC, Albertson Fury and Former Fury players as an additional tool in readiness for LI Fury season, Fury '89 season and as preparation for August College Pre-Season.
Fury Boot Camp is a program designed to test players strength, resilience, speed, endurance and overall fitness levels. Individuals will receive dietary advice, body sculpting techniques and fun methods to maintain personal fitness.
Fury boot camp will be at Eisenhower Park Field 1 (Entrance on Merrick Ave. by Hempstead Tpke.) at 10AM every Mon, Wed and Fri. starting May 18th.
Tracy Riley will be formulating and running the program designed to get players to their personal highest levels of fitness in preparation for battle. The program is free of charge and open only to Alberston SC, Albertson Fury and former Fury players.
Please let us know (kksoccer731@aol.com) if you will be attending so we can get an email list together.
Long Island Fury and Long Island Academy are delighted to announce we have joined the YPSL (Youth Premier Soccer league), the official youth league of the WPSL (Womens Premier Soccer League) and NPSL (National Premier Soccer League)
YPSL was created to satisfy the needs of organizations looking for highly competitive games. YPSL clubs retain territorial protection on a year to year basis maintaining minimum standards.
YPSL features U11 thru U16 age groups. Divisional alignments will follow the WPSL/NPSL scheme as much a possible. Schedules consist of 12 matches over 4 festival weekends plus the final playoff weekend which will be hosted on Long Island by the LI Fury and LI Academy on August 1-3rd.
Each weekend is structured to allow travel to and from the event, minimizing hotel cost and providing 3 games per trip.
Albertson Soccer Club will form the base of our LI Fury and LI Academy teams and we will look forward to offer many talented players a home, not only for the summer but for the entire year.
For further information call 516-764-4588 or email Kevin Koehn, Director of Operations LI Fury/LI Academy at kksoccer731@aol.com.

The Albertson Soccer Club is thrilled to announce that the players on the Albertson Fury 90 team have attained $1.5 million in college scholarships.
"The scholarships are just one aspect of their accomplishments," commented Fury 90 team manager Michael Bruh. "Many of the players have been able to attend schools they never would have been able to without adding soccer on their résumés."
The four-time State Cup champions are currently ranked fourth in the nation. Fury 90 were National Elite Women's Soccer Showcase (NEWSS) champs in 2007, Jefferson Cup champs in both 2006 and 2007 plus Raleigh Shootout champions in 2006. They have also been finalists in the Regionals, the Disney Showcase (2009) and Las Vegas College Showcase.
"We are very proud to see so many of our players going to top class programs and highly-regarded academic institutions," said Paul Riley, the head coach of both the Long Island Fury and Albertson Fury 90. "These Furyites have worked relentlessly to reach their goals both on and off the field and I'm really excited to see them play college soccer."
Fury 90's most well-known player, Vicki DiMartino, is the first American player to score in five consecutive matches at a World Cup event, which she did at last autumn's Under-17 Women’s World Cup, and her six goals won the Silver Boot as the second-best scorer in the tournament.
Here are all the Albertson Fury 90 players, and the college that they will be attending:

Seven Fury 90 players--Bruh, DiMartino, Haller, Hodak, Ippolito, Rose and Spencer--played for the Long Island Fury of the WPSL last year against much older opponents and led that local squad to the Mid-Atlantic Division championship of the Women's Premier Soccer League.
The awards continue as Molly Bruh was honored as Nassau County's 2008 Scholar/Athlete of the Year. Meredith Maguire, Alexa Purdy, Kim Rose and Kelcey Zacareses received Scholar/Athlete Awards as well. Bruh and Jenny Butwin played for Albertson as 4-year-old Munchkins and are very proud of the fact that Riley has coached them for the past 15 years.
"It will be an emotional good-bye when the Fury 90 players leave but we have had an amazing and memorable journey and I'm sure all of us will remember the journey plus the team's success. The Fury 90 have made a tremendous impact on this age group both on a State and National level," Coach Riley concluded. "They are a special team and I'm convinced we will be hearing a lot about them over the next four years. They have been brilliant in representing the Fury program and will now carry the mantle to their next college home."
